VERY important thing is to keep separator clean. Manufacturer recommends cleaning it after every use. Whatever you choose to follow instructions to the letter is your choice but in general the separator has to be clean. One of the most common mistakes that owners NEVER clean it. Over the time fine dust builds up in THICK layers inside the separator and under it. It puts the whole system out of balance putting more stress on the bearings, making motor brushes spar and heat. Vacuum becomes increasingly noisy and finally motor burns out .
Also layers of dust gradually close the gap between separator and lower motor casing. Due to the friction plastic heats up and melts and you may need to look for a new vacuum cleaner sooner than you'd like or spend hundreds of dollars to get your Rainbow vacuum back up and running.
